There is an online joke going around about the Jamaican Olympic track team:

Early morning raids at the residence of the Jamaican Triple Sprint Champ Medalist, revealed a large stash of Jamaican drugs. Investigations are continuing… (then the photo above is presented) Coaches have been quietly taking notes and it’s been rumoured that future Olympians are going on the Jamaican Drug Diet.

Seems that the Jamaican love of starchy fruits and vegetables is being said to be the “drug” behind the success of the speedy track team lead by Usain Bolt. Funny and possibly true. All I know is that that they can “hold you” for a long time before you get hungry. That’s why you find a lot of the above ingredients in our soups, stews and eaten alone as side dishes.

Photo: clockwise from left, Green Bananas, Coconut, cassava, yellow yam, plantain, coco (eddoes), sweet potatoes, small coco.

In our family cooking is a loving gesture. Our mission is to spread that love around the world by sharing our beloved family recipes. Our Jamaican recipes have been passed down for generations, are easy to prepare and very authentic! We know you'll love them. Enjoy!
