Fruit Salad is called Matrimony. Though I’m not sure exactly why I’m going to guess that it’s because you marry different fruits together. Traditionally Matrimony uses three fruits: oranges, grapefruit and star apple. Since star apples aren’t always easy to find outside the tropics you can substitute other peeled fruits. I think mango, pineapple and juicy stone fruits like plums and peaches work best. (If you have star apples, use the pulp of 4 apples with the citrus instead).
Adding nutmeg and sweetened condensed milk is what makes this dessert really Jamaican. However, for a healthier version substitute the milk for some chopped fresh mint, however you won’t be able to call it true Jamaican Matrimony… sorry, LOL.
If you want to include bananas slices in this dessert use them as a garnish when serving instead of pre-mixing them in with the other fruit, where they’ll become mushy.
